DNA & Cosmetics is expanding! As announced by the founding members last April, at the in-cosmetics Global trade fair in Paris, the consortium has welcomed three new members: Evonik, Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, and Minasolve.

The DNA & Cosmetics consortium aims to build a database of genetic resources that will help to check the authenticity and ensure the traceability of plant raw materials thanks to DNA sequencing technologies.

The strong commitment of each Consortium member means that the entire cosmetics/perfume and flavor industry can use a powerful, recognized and indispensable analytical tool to prove the traceability of plant, algae, fungus and moss supplies, and thus better manage the associated risks and opportunities to support their transition towards a model that is both responsible and resilient,” said the consortium in a press statement.

Launched in 2018 by DNA Gensee — a laboratory specializing in the DNA analysis of plants, algae and beehive products — the DNA & Cosmetics consortium aims to provide models for the cosmetics/perfume sector to ensure the safety of plant raw materials and enable better control of natural resources from plant to consumer.

Cooperation between competing players in the chain who share the same conviction, as well as their knowledge and know-how, enables progress to be made towards more ethical, sustainable and, consequently, safer production models,” highlighted the consortium.
